New RO Development

+Mg+pH+H2O+RO 1:1.2 ratio RO (this means more efficiency ‘less water waste’

more healthy and more delicious drinking water)

This is our cast of characters that will sell this, build this, install this, service this and proactively change this unit on a yearly basis.  They are the very best technicians in our water treatment environment and they perform their work with extreme excellence.

This higher PH reverse osmosis efficiency model is designed around the Pentair GRO-36EN high efficiency reverse osmosis membrane (water treatment equipment Phx, Az). Our regional representative from Pentair stopped by the other day and told us about this new design (water filtration equipment Phx, Az) .  We have tested this GRO-36EN high efficiency reverse osmosis membrane  at our laboratory and now have 10 customers utilizing this purification process (reverse osmosis service Phoenix, Az).

Boyett’s Family has developed a new RO unit that will save water.
Based upon calculations and testing performed at our laboratory (38 East 5th Avenue, Mesa Arizona 85210)  – this RO reduces the RO unit consumption by 85%.
We may be first to market with this dynamic product.

– raises the PH level to between 8-8.5 PH (we utilize a material called calcite to perform this improvement)

-we can now add magnesium to the water (utilizing a material called cor-sex to perform this improvement).  This new feature is available on request.

– water usage ratio is 1:1.2.  Traditional RO units will consume as much as 3 – 11 gallons to every gallon purified.  This (New RO Development, +H2O+PH+RO, CAS ‘we are still working on the name’) will consume only 1.2 gallons to every gallon purified.

Is this product available to rent?

Purchasing a +Mg Water Savings Alkalinity RO Vs Renting

Here are a couple of quotes from respected industry professionals concerning our company and this new product development:
“Your interest in new products and techniques makes you one of the industry’s leaders.” D.P. (director of a respected water industry trade association)
“This product may be a platform shifter.“ D.K. (respected water treatment manufacture in our region)

07.17.15 2:14 PM

This is the story of how we developed this product.  We hope to apply these three tenants to this new product :

  1. Raise the standard of our industry
  2. Aggrandize our client relationships
  3. make our products the most efficient and affordable in our region

Our representative from Pentair made a visit to our office to follow up on a problem.  On his way out of our office he said, “by the way, try this new RO membrane; it saves a lot of water.”  Troy grabbed that new water saving membrane out of his hands and ran to the back of our factory ‘this is where our RO laboratory resides’.  We attached this water saving membrane to our RO unit (it involves us to change our tubing configuration – so the GRO- 50EN membrane sticker ‘is right side up’).   And as they say – the rest is history.  This RO membrane will change our RO industry.

This is an image of this RO water saving membrane.  Pentair GRO-50EN High Efficiency Reverse Osmosis Membrane.

Here is the product literature for this membrane:

We would like to introduce to you our new RO leak control device (reverse osmosis systems Phoenix, Arizona).  This is our third generation RO leak control device.  We first heard that we can apply a leak controller to protect your assets in 2007.  From the time we installed our first leak controller; we have installed all of our RO units with leak controllers.  We will always look for the best gear and parts to provide to you.  I make this personal promise to you: if there is a better leak controller that is developed – we will always change yours to the best.

Flowlok Leak Protection System

This is how the RO leak protection device appears:

Part numbers: FLK-14; FLK-Pad

Images in this picture:  Water supply, the  FLK-14 and  Reverse osmosis tubing

According to the company that manufactures this product:

The Flowlok leak protection system is a series of products designed to help customers’ safe guard against possible leaks from their water filtration System.  The products help consumers by shutting off the water supply to their filtration system if water from a leak is detected.   The Flowlok Leak Protection System requires no electricity and is an economical device that all water filtration owners should have to help minimize issues associated with water damage.  Flowlock is easy to install and retrofits takes no more than 15 minutes to perform.

The Flowlok Leak Detector  (FLK-14)  is an innovative device that installs right below your water filtration system in minutes.  No special tools are required and it does not need electricity (or batteries) to operate.  Flowlok leak detectors  (FLK-14)   utilize a highly compressed safety disc (FLK-Pad)     that expands when it absorbs water.  Once the safety disc has detected water it expands and trips the Flowlok safety lever to shut off the water entering the water filtration device.  Safety discs are replaceable.  Boyett’s Family Rayne Water Conditioning will provide these safety discs (FLK-Pad) at no charge.

Boyett’s Family Rayne Water Conditioning includes these as a standard feature on all of our reverse osmosis installations.   If you rent an RO unit from our company; we will change your ‘RO New Development +PH unit’ every year; we will change the leak control device every 5 years ‘at least’ at no charge.  Plastic disintigrates; we don’t want your house to flood.

The GRO-36EN (36 gallons per day)  high efficiency reverse osmosis membrane and the Pentair GRO-50EN (50 gallons per day) High Efficiency Reverse Osmosis Membrane are available for purchase at our laboratory (38 East 5th Avenue, Mesa AZ 85210).   Please, always call to make sure we have parts in stock.  We will ship our parts.

My family is very excited to be part of perfecting these new products to improve our industry and the lives of our customers.  Brian Hayden Boyett

Magnesium + water; a new RO development for Boyett’s Family Rayne Water Conditioning.

Source of picture: Wall Street Journal 08/15/15

As I sat at Starbucks reading this article about the Colorado mines contaminating the Colorado Rivers I realized this is our problem.  Our Arizona water distribution networks are utilizing more of the Central Arizona Project (because we live in the desert and our population is increasing); which is the water that flows to Arizona by way of the Colorado Rivers.

I have good news for you: The contaminants mentioned in this article can be removed by a well- maintained reverse osmosis unit.   My mind quickly changed to the thought of our healthly water.

Recently a prospective client inquired about our water treatment service.  I spoke with her about our alkalinity approach and she said, “That all sounds good – by the way – if you ever figure out how to add magnesium to the water – let me know.”

I told Troy – Troy called one of our loyal and dependable water treatment suppliers.  They said it is possible to add magnesium to the water by utilizing a very germane water treatment ingredient called Corosex.  Corosex is a material sold by the Clack Corporation.   The purpose of Corosex is to raise the Ph of water.  One of its attributes; it simultaneously adds magnesium oxide to the water.

According to this source:

By neutralizing the free carbon dioxide in water, Corosex can correct acidic water conditions and render it less corrosive. Corosex, being a highly reactive magnesium oxide, is used most effectively where pH correction is substantial or high flow conditions are in use.

This link described to me magnesium oxide:

What Is Magnesium Oxide?

Magnesium oxide is a mineral supplement used to treat or prevent low levels of magnesium in the blood.

Magnesium is important for many systems in the body, but it is especially vital for healthy muscles and bones.

Some people use magnesium oxide to relieve heartburn or indigestion. The supplement may also be used short-term as a laxative.

The supplement is available over-the-counter (OTC) without a prescription.

Our + magnesium H2O project has quickly begun.

We soon installed our first + magnesium RO for this client (who said “….– if you ever figure out how to add magnesium to the water – let me know”) and as they say – the rest is history.  We now have three clients installed – or scheduled for installation for the +magnesium+h2o+ro utilizing Corosex to raise the level of magnesium in the reverse osmosis drinking water (which will improve water treatment for Phoenix, Arizona; Laveen, Arizona and Gilbert, Arizona).

Here are some excerpts from a Google testimony this client (who said “….– if you ever figure out how to add magnesium to the water – let me know”) wrote:

….. leading edge role in this 40+ year process. It was impressive to say the least…. In numerous later phone and email interactions it was clear he’s the genuine article…….. It was clear that NO ONE offers the value, service and peace of mind that they do!  We went with their Dynamic Duel Softener & RO w/added magnesium for alkalinity, system….. The installation: Our Installer, Brad (sic), was on time, efficient, friendly and helpful. He’s worked for the company for 12 years which is a good sign. He walked us through the equipment and it’s operation and was happy to repeat instructions on operation as we are newbies and like to understand things thoroughly. He performed the required system tests in our presence, explaining the process as he went along. Although it wasn’t required, he offered to test the chlorine levels after installation since he had a kit in his truck. We appreciated his extra efforts and he often emphasized we could call anytime with questions. We were very pleased with the installation process and so relieved to have soft water again, not to mention, safe chlorine-free water to bath in and drink! Thanks Boyett!

These are words by Lorraine K.  You can see her complete testimony at:,1

Our office will receive our + magnesium + h2o unit soon.  We will attach this + magnesium + h2o to an office cooler and be prepared to provide this service to office environments (which will help provide great drinking water to Phoenix, Arizona; Mesa, Arizona and Fountain Hills, Arizona) I can’t wait.  I have tried this water and it tastes delicious.  If this is healthier for me – if this water is best for our customers (who require more magnesium in their diet) I welcome this approach.

A case study

The same customer who brought us the alkalinity reverse osmosis idea (Circa 2009) is low on magnesium (her blood tests show that she is low on magnesium).

This is a copy of her magnesium test results (report date 08/01/2015 11:53:26 PM) at Scottsdale, Arizona laboratory.  It shows results 1.3 (reference range 1.3-2.8); she is in the lower spectrum.  Her onus is to raise her magnesium level.  We think we can help with our new +magnesium+ro development.

Within the last two weeks we installed in her home a +magnesium reverse osmosis unit.  This kind lady has offered to take blood tests while utilizing our new plus magnesium water.  She will allow us to report to you her progress.  If our plus magnesium water approach has merit (increases the magnesium level in her body); we will ask her to report her progress on Google, Yelp or – just like she (reported on Google) in 2009 and 2012 (stating her happy results from our alkalinity water approach).   We listen to you and you help us develop our company.  Thank you.  This leads us to exciting new adventures.  Here we go again.

According to this source:

Magnesium deficiency or hypomagnesia (not to be confused with hypomagnesemia) refers to inadequate intake of dietary magnesium or impaired absorption of magnesium, which can result in numerous symptoms and diseases.[1] It is generally corrected by an increase of magnesium in diet, oral supplements, and in severe cases, intravenous supplementation.

Symptoms of magnesium deficiency include hyperexcitability, muscular symptoms (cramps, tremor, fasciculations, spasms, tetany, weakness), fatigue, loss of appetite, apathy, confusion, insomnia, irritability, poor memory, and reduced ability to learn. Moderate to severe magnesium deficiency can cause tingling or numbness, heart changes, rapid heartbeat, continued muscle contractions, nausea, vomiting, personality changes, delirium, hallucinations, low calcium levels, low serum potassium levels, retention of sodium, low circulating levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH),[4] and potentially death from heart failure.[5] Magnesium plays an important role in carbohydrate metabolism and its deficiency may worsen insulin resistance, a condition that often precedes diabetes, or may be a consequence of insulin resistance.[6][7

Causes of magnesium deficiency include diet, alcohol abuse, poorly controlled diabetes, excessive or chronic vomiting and/or diarrhea. Phytate[8] or oxalate[9] in the diet may bind magnesium causing it to be eliminated from rather than absorbed in the colon. Certain drugs can deplete magnesium levels such as osmotic diuretics, cisplatin, ciclosporin, amphetamines, and possibly proton pump inhibitors.[10] Also deficiency may occur in Bartter syndrome[11] and Gitelman syndrome.[12]

Magnesium is a co-factor in over 300 functions in the body regulating many kinds of biochemical reactions. It is involved in protein synthesis, muscle and nerve functioning, bone development, energy production, the maintenance of normal heart rhythm, and the regulation of glucose and blood pressure, among other important roles.[13] Low magnesium intake over time can increase the risk of illnesses, including high blood pressure and heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, osteoporosis, and migraines.[13]

End of source quotation.

Many people are low on magnesium in their diet.  According to the above source, 57% of the US population does not meet the US RDA for dietary intake of magnesium.[14]  We may have a simple solution with our new plus magnesium reverse osmosis development.

How does it work?

We add a material called Corosex ( -which exists in granular form – to an empty reverse osmosis filter housing.  We have designed our reverse osmosis water to travel through this Corosex material – as the reverse osmosis travels to the reverse osmosis faucet.  Because the reverse osmosis water is slightly acidic – it dissolves this Corosex material and retains the magnesium oxide in the molecules of the drinking water.

How do we know it works?

This is the same approach we have been utilizing since 2009 to provide over 1,000 clients alkalinity reverse osmosis water.   We have utilized a material called Calcite ( material to raise the PH of reverse osmosis drinking water.  People love this alkalinity reverse osmosis product.  This product now represents 20% of our company.

How much does it cost?

$75.00 onetime connection fee

$36.00 a month plus tax

We install a new unit every year at no cost to you.

This unit is installed with our water saving feature (saves over 85% water consumption ‘compared to old reverse osmosis units’.)

Here is some magnesium deficiency information from this source:

Paul Mason has painstakingly documented that a significant cause of cardiovascular disease is magnesium deficiency. His mission has been to persuade the world that consuming more magnesium would stave off today’s leading cause of death: heart attack and stroke.

For decades, statisticians have demonstrated that the majority of Americans do not get the government’s minimum daily requirement for magnesium.

The latest government study shows a staggering 68% of Americans do not consume the recommended daily intake of magnesium. Even more frightening are data from this study showing that 19% of Americans do not consume even half of the government’s recommended daily intake of magnesium.34 Is it any wonder that disability and death from heart attack and stroke are the nation’s leading killers?

“Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis. There is an increased interest in the role of magnesium in preventing and managing disorders such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.”35

The hot new term discussed by cardiologists is C-reactive protein, an inflammatory marker in the blood that predicts who is likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke. Higher blood levels of C-reactive protein mean greater risk of cardiovascular disease.36-53

Life Extension has extensively published about the dangers of chronic inflammation.54-59 Most scientists now accept that inflammation plays a role in the development of atherosclerosis,60-69 cancer,70-82 Alzheimer’s disease,83-87 and other age-related disorders.88-104 The best way to assess whether a person suffers from chronic inflammation is the C-reactive protein blood test.

A new study showed that adults who consume less than the recommended amount of magnesium are 1.48 to 1.75 times more likely to have elevated C-reactive protein.34 This finding offers yet another reason why those who are magnesium deficient have increased rates of cardiovascular disease—their C-reactive protein levels are likely to be higher!

With all the research linking low magnesium intake with high cardiovascular risks, this low-cost mineral would appear to be a simple way to counter today’s heart attack and stroke epidemic. Unfortunately, magnesium is so cheap that virtually no one is promoting it as a lifesaving mineral.

“Magnesium deficiency appears to have caused 8 million sudden coronary deaths in America during the period 1940-1994 . . . The needless drag on the US economy from magnesium deficiency exceeds $86 billion per year . . . the American rate of death from magnesium deficiency is likely to be above the benchmark average because the American diet is particularly magnesium deficient;…”

End of quotation from this source.

Last night I met a man at Brooklyn V Pizza, Gilbert Arizona; I was there watching one of our favorite Indy musicians perform (Aaron Howard). Aaron’s guest told how he felt refreshed when visiting his parents’ home.  He drank and bathed in their water; which comes from a well.  He felt that the natural minerals improved his health.  This thought came to our minds: Our work with plus magnesium is like putting well water back into your drinking water.   We thank Lorraine K for bringing this idea to us.  Based upon the initial research I have done; Boyett’s Family Rayne Water Conditioning sees our potential to raise the standard of our industry; aggrandize our client’s health and provide a sustainable and affordable product to add magnesium to your diet.  All of our products and services are delivered with a 100% money back guarantee.

Magnesium is an old home remedy for all that ails you, including “anxiety, apathy, depression, headaches, insecurity, irritability, restlessness, talkativeness, and sulkiness.” In 1968, Wacker and Parisi(link is external) reported that magnesium deficiency could cause depression, behavioral disturbances, headaches, muscle cramps, seizures, ataxia, psychosis, and irritability – all reversible with magnesium repletion.

Stress is the bad guy here, in addition to our woeful magnesium deficient diets. As is the case with other minerals such as zinc, stress causes us to waste our magnesium like crazy – I’ll explain a bit more about why we do that in a minute.

Thank you and God bless,

Brad Myers is very influential in helping us develop our alkalinity reverse osmosis process.  We need all the help we can get.  We are so fortunate to have such high quality people as Brad Myers on our team to help us develop this new product.  Thank you Brad for keeping us in your thoughts and actions.

Here is some more information about plus magnesium.  This information is provided by one of the people who helped us develop our popular alkalinity reverse osmosis drinking water system for water treatment in Cave Creek, AZ and Scottsdale, AZ.

By Dr. Mercola

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in your body. If you don’t have enough of it, your body simply cannot function at its best. Insufficient cellular magnesium levels set the stage for deterioration of proper metabolic function that typically snowballs into more significant health problems.

As reported by GreenMedInfo,1 researchers have now detected 3,751 magnesium-binding sites on human proteins, reflecting how important this mineral is to a great many biological processes.

For example, magnesium plays a role in your body’s detoxification processes and therefore is important for minimizing damage from environmental chemicals, heavy metals, and other toxins.

Even glutathione, considered by many to be your body’s most powerful antioxidant, requires magnesium in order to be produced.

Magnesium also plays roles in preventing migraine headaches, cardiovascular disease (including high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes), sudden cardiac death, and even reduces death from all causes.

This important mineral is required by more than 300 different enzymes in your body, which play important roles in the following biochemical processes, many of which are crucial for proper metabolic function:

Creation of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy molecules of your body Proper formation of bones and teeth Relaxation of blood vessels
Action of your heart muscle Promotion of proper bowel function Regulation of blood sugar levels

Because of the popularity of this program we are increasing the capacity of our reverse osmosis manufacturing area.

This is a picture of the current reverse osmosis infrastructure

We will be doubling our capacity from 11 reverse osmosis units to 22 units.

How will we do this?

We will utilize this area (just South of our existing reverse osmosis manufacturing area) to double our capacity.  It will happen fast.  I have been very impressed with the work and organization our people have invested to prepare this area.

We build our own reverse osmosis units.  This is unusual.  We feel this is best for our customers and best for our industry.  We can control costs and quality by building our own equipment.  If we find equipment and parts that are better for our customers; we quickly adapt and embrace this new technology.

01.14.16 1:24 PM Progress report on our reverse osmosis area expansion

Brett is applying his plumbing excellence and efficiency to this project (the result looks like plumbing / water treatment mastery).

01.19.16 11:43 AM

Francisco is securing the reverse osmosis sanitization line.  We let the sanitizing fluid sit in each RO tank for ten minutes.  Francisco flushes the tanks two times.  It is my opinion; this important process may not be performed on most in home RO service calls.  The time necessary to perform this ‘in an in home environment may be 20-30 minutes’.   Therefore, in home reverse osmosis maintenance – the RO tanks may not be effectively sanitized.   We feel this RO tank sanitization process is critical to health and good tasting reverse osmosis water.

By utilizing economies of scale we can now sanitize RO tanks more efficiently.  This will improve RO performance and save our customers time and money.

When we deliver RO units to your home or business; each tank goes through this cleaning process.  When you drink our water – it will be delicious, healthy and safe.

01.22.16 3:03 PM

Our company has sent samples of water (from RO tanks) to be tested to Legend Laboratory, Phoenix Arizona  (   We have found the RO tanks that have not been sanitized (within the period of 12 months) had a much higher heterotrophic plate count than the tanks that had been sanitized within 12 months.

Heterotrophic plate count

Heterotrophs are broadly defined as microorganisms that require organic carbon

for growth. They include bacteria, yeasts and molds. A variety of simple

culture-based tests that are intended to recover a wide range of microorganisms

from water are collectively referred to as “heterotrophic plate count” or “HPC

test” procedures… (

Microbial growth in water

Microorganisms will normally grow in water and on surfaces in contact with

water as biofilms. Growth following drinking-water treatment is normally

referred to as “regrowth.” Growth is typically reflected in higher HPC values

measured in water samples. Elevated HPC levels occur especially in stagnant

parts of piped distribution systems, in domestic plumbing, in bottled water and

in plumbed-in devices…..

…..The principal determinants of regrowth are temperature, availability of nutrients

and lack of residual disinfectant…..

Aesthetic quality

Drinking-water must be aesthetically acceptable as well as safe. Aesthetic

acceptability is directly relevant to health, since rejection of safe, but

unacceptable (undesirable), water may lead users to consume acceptable but

potentially unsafe alternative waters. HPC testing may be used in investigating

aesthetic quality, and it is used by some authorities as a marker for some of the

underlying causes of some aesthetic problems.

We guarantee to you that our rental RO tanks will be effectively sanitized, our water will be aesthetically pleasing and our service will be exceptional and affordable.

We plan to continue our heterotrophic plate count testing experiments and we will continue to share this data with you.

Here is the finish product

I am proud of Brett’s work.

Our next RO development will be to substantiate the process (we are currently utilizing with our +h2o+ph+ro and our +h2o+ph+mg+ro) will remove cryptosporidium (   from water.  Cryptospiridium can cause Legionaires disease (

The following is a text extract from the 2014 City of Tempe Water Quality Report

Cryptosporidium is a microbial pathogen found in surface water throughout the U.S. Ingestion of Cryptosporidium may cause cryptosporidiosis, an abdominal infection. Symptoms of infection include nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Most healthy individuals can overcome the disease within a few weeks. However, immuno-compromised people, infants and small children, and the elderly are at greater risk of developing life-threatening illness. Although filtration removes Cryptosporidium, the most commonly-used filtration methods cannot guarantee 100 percent removal. Our monitoring indicates, although infrequent, these organisms are present in our source water. Current test methods do not allow us to determine if the organisms are dead or if they are capable of causing disease. Based on source water monitoring for Cryptosporidium at Tempe’s two water treatment plants between October 2003 and October 2006, Tempe’s source water has been determined to be low risk under EPA’s regulations for cryptosporidium.

…………Most of Tempe’s drinking water wells were designated at low risk in the ADEQ 2004 source water assessment. However, two wells were considered at high risk for possible future contamination based upon adjacent land use………..

I love the City of Tempe.  This is the town in which I grew up (I received all my education in this Town – K through college).  I served on the Tempe Mayors youth advisory committee with the Mark Mitchell (when his father Harry Mitchell was the Tempe mayor).   Harry Mitchell has been our soft water customer (at his home in Tempe).  Tempe Arizona is the city our CEO and president resides.  The City of Tempe does a great job with water treatment.

My point in posting this text extract is: “Cryptosporidium, the most commonly-used filtration methods cannot guarantee 100 percent removal. Our monitoring indicates, although infrequent, these organisms are present in our source water.”

This text extract from the 2014 City of Tempe Water Quality Report shows a need for a final cryptosporidium barrier.    We have a solution.

Our solution to provide you a final barrier and protect your family from drinking cryptosporidium is this:

Our +h2o+ph+ro and our +h2o+ph+mg+ro will protect your family from drinking cryptosporidium.  Our +h2o+ph+ro and our +h2o+ph+mg+ro units utilize the water filtration process of reverse osmosis.  Our +h2o+ph+ro and our +h2o+ph+mg+ro will remove cryptosporidium from your water.

Here is a text extract from a Centers for Disease Control document

Not all home water filters remove Crypto. Filters that are designed to remove Crypto should have one of the following labels:

  • Reverse osmosis….

We are in the process of developing a marketing picture to represent this new product feature (Boyett’s +h2o+ph+ro and Boyett’s +h2o+ph+mg+ro water filters remove cryptosporidium from water).  We will be utilizing our founder’s (William Brian Boyett) accouterments (cowboy hat, cowboy boots and 30-30 lever action gun) to give our new product feature allure and prestige.

As a third generation Arizona native man – I feel the sense of urgency to save water.  We advocate Xeriscape (1)– hot water recirculating pumps (to save hot water ‘and improve convenience and efficiency’) and a Pentair GRO-36EN high efficiency reverse osmosis membrane (water filtration equipment Scottsdale, Az). We have performed water savings calculations (for a year period of time) for a family who utilizes a Pentair GRO-36EN high efficiency reverse osmosis membrane (water filtration equipment Cave Creek, Arizona).

If a family of 3 uses a Pentair GRO-36EN high efficiency reverse osmosis membrane (water filtration equipment Cave Creek, Arizona) the yearly water savings can be 2,190 gallons per year.

If a family of 4 utilizes a Pentair GRO-36EN high efficiency reverse osmosis membrane (water filtration equipment Fountain Hills, Arizona) the yearly water savings can be 2,920 gallons per year.

If a family of 5 utilizes a Pentair GRO-36EN high efficiency reverse osmosis membrane (water filtration equipment Chandler, Arizona) the yearly water savings can be 3,650 gallons per year.

If a family of 6 utilizes a Pentair GRO-36EN high efficiency reverse osmosis membrane (water filtration equipment Mesa, Arizona) the yearly water savings can be 4,380 gallons per year.

I opened my Google News this weekend to find these headlines:

Drinking Water of Some Californians Exceeds Limit for ‘Erin Brockovich’ Chemical

The beginning of this articles reads:

When Erin Brockovich went after PG&E for poisoning groundwater in the desert town of Hinkley, California — a campaign that later became a film starring Julia Roberts — the toxic chemical was a heavy metal called hexavalent chromium.

Also known as chromium 6, the chemical is listed under California’sProp 65 as causing cancer, developmental harm and reproductive harmin both men and women.

A new report out today finds Hinkley isn’t the only California city with chromium 6 contamination.

The report found 11 water districts serving some 400,000 Californians had hexavalent chromium in their tap water at levels above the state’s legal limit.

Above the Legal Limit
The state’s limit for chromium 6 in drinking water is 10 parts per billion. A part per billion is about a drop of water in an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

I have received several calls over the last week from our customers wondering if our reverse osmosis will remove hexavalent chromium?

Our +Mg+pH+ro+h2o will remove hexavalent chromium from you water.

our source for our facts:

We will be happy to help any Californians that need our expertise to treat your water.

I just received some positive feedback and medical test results representing the benefit of our +Mg+pH+h2o+ro product and service.

I previously made a post regarding one of our clients who was low on her Magnesium level.  The original test she took was August 1, 2015.  Her Magnesium level at the time was 1.3.

My family installed the +Mg+pH+h2o+ro in her home and her Magnesium level is now 2.0 which is considered more healthy.  She reports that she feels more healthy and she has a higher energy level.

Here are her test results from LabCorp 10/10/16 1 PM:

This customer testifies that she has only been drinking our water.  She has not taken any other form of magnesium.   Please call me; I will be happy to provide you her contact information for verification of these results and testimony.  My contact information is; office phone (480) 969-7251; cell phone (602) 291-4157.  Respectfully, Brian Hayden Boyett

This is a comment we received on our Yelp about this product:

These guys are great.  The RO water tastes like our mountain water in CA.  My daughter from Surprise tasted the water and was shocked how good it is.  The soft water is not slippery like every soft water I have had before.  We have used topical Mg for aches and pains for some time.  After a week of drinking our new water we have not used the Mg creams or oils for several days.  The customer service was wonderful.

Special water alert story

As I was driving home on Friday night (12.02.16 about 6 PM) I received a text from our service manager Troy  – alerting me to a serious water advisory in the San Tan Valley AZ area (Queen Creek Az) concerning high levels of nitrates in Johnson Utilities water.  The advisory suggested not drinking the water due to high levels of nitrates.

On Saturday I received this e mail from our client:

I just received this. We do not have young children using our water so it sounds like we are ok. Does our Boyett RO remove nitrates?

When I returned to the office on Saturday I followed up my e mail with an email containing this information:

Ion exchange units, reverse osmosis, or distillation all remove nitrate from drinking water. Note that boiling water does not remove nitrates and is not a treatment alternative. In fact, it increases nitrate concentrations as water evaporates.

How to ward off osteoporosis.  Can Boyett’s Family +Mg+pH+ro+h2o help?

I found this article in the Arizona Republic on December 21, 2016; in the Mid week insert Section M.  This caught my eye because I have heard that increasing your level of Magnesium can help ward off osteoporosis.

Based upon our recent magnesium blood tests (that our client took over 12 months ‘her magnesium level increased by drinking our water’) and client comments; we have a suspicion – drinking water that contains the natural elements of calcium and magnesium might be a great way to consume delicious and healthy water (our +Mg+pH+h2o+ro contains natural elements of calcium and magnesium).  What if drinking Boyett’s Family +Mg+pH+h2o+ro water improves your health and helps to ward off osteoporosis?  I’m just asking.

This is a recent comment about our +Mg+pH+h2o+ro water that is posted on Yelp (12/29/16):

We contacted Boyett when we discovered their alkaline water, reverse osmosis, filtration system. They showed up right on time to install the unit and even hooked up our ice maker. The rental cost of this R.O. system is very reasonable. We have now used this system for over 3 weeks and are very pleased with the quality of the filtered water. We would definitely recommend this company.

I saw this picture in the Arizona Republic paper yesterday

This image shows a drinking fountain decommissioned with caution tape.

The title to this article is:  Arizona drinking-water violations common, report says.

Here are some highlights of this article:

More than one-third of Arizona’s population gets drinking water from a utility or company that violated federal drinking-water regulations….

  • About 36% of the state’s population – were served by a water system that violated at least one federal Safe Drinking Water Act rule
  • The most common violation occurred in how Arizona water systems treated water and byproducts those treatments can create. That was followed by violations for water containing organic chemicals or bacteria, and reporting and monitoring lapses.
  • The report said that 3.2 percent of Arizona residents were served by water systems that reported such “health-based” violations – either failing to treat a parasite (harmful waterborne pathogens such as giardia and cryptosporidium parasites that can cause intestinal distress) or allowing unsafe levels of chemicals.
  • The Natural Resources Defense Council report’s authors cautioned that monitoring of public water systems remains a challenge.
  • Arizona’s fourth most common type of violation involved “consumer confidence,” considered a shortfall in a water system’s monitoring and reporting procedures.
  • Erik Olson, the Natural Resources Defense Council’s health-program director, said that it “raises a big yellow flag” when Arizona water systems fail to meet the monitoring and reporting requirements.

“When you have systems that are not testing and not reporting, that raises your eyebrows,” Olson said.  The fact that some water systems that did not meet monitoring and reporting requirements could be an indication that water systems are not testing or reporting potentially harmful pathogens or chemicals, Olson said.

  • Johnson Utilities, which operates a public water utility in Pinal County, ranked No. 2 in violations among the state’s 10 largest water systems with at least one violation.
  • Johnson Utilities sparred with Arizona Department of Environmental Quality inspectors last December over whether nitrate levels in its drinking water were safe for infants to consume.

Our take away from this information:

  • We can help protect your family from : such “health-based” violations –parasites (harmful waterborne pathogens such as giardia and cryptosporidium parasites that can cause intestinal distress) and from allowing unsafe levels of chemicals.

Will Boyett’s family Rayne Water Conditioning +Mg+pH+h2o+ro remove cryptosporidium parasites from your drinking water?

Here is the proof:

Will Boyett’s family Rayne Water Conditioning +Mg+pH+h2o+ro remove giardia parasites from your drinking water?

Here is the proof:

……reverse osmosis units should have an absolute pore size of one (1) micron or smaller or meet NSF/ANSI standard 53 or 58 for cyst removal or reduction to be effective against cysts.

Boyett’s family Rayne Water Conditioning +Mg+pH+h2o+ro does have an absolute pore size of one (1) micron or smaller or meet NSF/ANSI standard 53 or 58 for cyst removal or reduction to be effective against cysts.

I just pulled up Google news and found this headline:

Nearly 30 MILLION Americans are drinking dangerous contaminated tap water linked to cancer, birth defects and lead poisoning

  • 15 percent of people in the United States have dangrous contaminated tap water in their homes
  • All 50 states have water systems that violate the Enviromental Protection Agency’s Safe Drinking Water Act
  • In 2015, there were 80,000 safety violations affecting 77 million people, and few had enforcement action
  • The most at-risk for having a contaminated water supply system are those in small rural areas

This article also mentioned:

‘We take it for granted that when we turn on our kitchen tap, the water will be safe and healthy, but we have a long way to go before that is reality across our country.’

Although Flint, Michigan, has been the focal point for critically unsafe water, the problem is more widespread, the report claims.

In addition to lead begin found in water, other pollutants were found across the nation.

In 2016, a Harvard University study found that more than six million people were drinking water with deadly toxins.

Drinking this water could lead to cancer, obesity, high cholesterol and may be linked to reproductive impacts such as miscarriages and birth defects, the findings claim.

In the recent report, there were often failures to report the serious contamination levels and 90 percent of the violations were subject to no formal action.

The NRDC also reports there is anywhere from six to 10 million water service lines made of lead and need to be replaced.

Consuming contaminated or unsafe water is dangerous for humans but the dirty water also poses a threat to crops and livestock.

Vegetables and fruit exposed to contaminated water pose a risk to people who eat them.

They could contract a food-borne illness. Some of the bacteria spread through water within the United States include E. coli, Salmonella and hepatitis A virus, according to the CDC.

Boyett’s family Rayne Water Conditioning’s answer to these concerns:

We just received this comment on our Google profile today from Ashley S. :

We have had other water softeners in the past but this system we have installed is the best of the best and the price can’t be beat. Brian came out and explained all our options to us and had someone come out and install everything before we moved into our new home. If you’re wondering if having RO alkaline water is worth it, it totally is! Our water has never tasted so clean and the ice cubes are crystal clear. We looked into other companies but this company is so innovative and has amazing customer service I would never use anyone else.

Ashley chose the dynamic duel water softener and carbon filter and the +Mg+pH+h2o+ro.

On the front page of the Arizona Republic Sunday July 2, 2017 I found an article titled Push and Pull.  This article was written by Michael Kiefer.  This man has a lot of courage to write this article.

This article is written about the man who is involved with providing the drinking water to communities in the San Tan Valley area.

Here are some quotes from this article:

He developed the Johnson Ranch housing community in San Tan Valley, and his Johnson Utilities provides water and wastewater services for tens of thousands of homes in Pinal County…..

…..The state and federal court dockets are rife with civil lawsuits by or against George Johnson and his companies, all of which are closely held and controlled by him.  Many of them concern water his companies did or didn’t deliver, service that was discontinued, water pressure and potability issues, or billing.

….That same year, Johnson Utilities was cited by ADEQ for 25 violations, including failure to provide water-quality tests and failure to report contamination.

…”Johnson asked Kunasek to directly contact, speak with, and lobby employees of a state governmental agency (ie DEQ) on behalf of a Johnson family business and make the problems(s) go away,” the lawsuit says.

When asked directly, Kunasek told The Republic that it involved burying sewage that should have been treated.

Documents from ADEQ show Johnson Utilities was served notices of violation, in October 2008 and March 2009, accusing it of burying “biosolids and other debris” and sewage sludge without authority or permits, and not notifying the agency of sewage spills.

“I said, ‘You need to clean it up,’ and he didn’t like that,” Kunasek said.

We just received these nice words from our +Mg+pH+h2o+ro client (on a Google review):

We first decided to rent a water softener for our house six months ago because my then 3-month old was suffering from really dry skin. When I called Boyett’s, the owner himself answered my call and very patiently walked me through all the info I needed. They were then able to come by that same day to have a look at our set up, and install everything the following day. Both Hayden and the tech who installed everything were genuinely nice and really cared about their customers. So, when I read an article about the poor quality of tap water in my area a few weeks ago, I knew I had to go with Boyettes to rent a reverse osmosis system. Once again, Hayden himself picked up my call and took the time to tell me all about the different options for RO. They were in our home within a day to install everything and did a great job. We now get the most refreshing water from the tap and our fridge water dispenser – I swear the RO water with the added alkalinity and magnesium is actually more refreshing than any water I’ve ever had! Needless to say, I highly recommend Boyetts, and am thrilled by their reasonably priced rental options – knowing I’ll always have a new, prime condition water softener and RO system is great.,1,

I responded to this very kind review with these words:

Wow, thank you for such nice words today. Your encouragement makes us want to work harder and give you the very best and delicious and healthy water.

We have received several calls about the awful taste and smell in the Mesa water and Tempe Arizona tap water.  This is an article that addresses this problem:

Low concentrations of Geosmin found in Mesa water –…water/618884001/

Aug 30, 2017 – Mesa officials are warning city residents about a slight change in the odor and taste of their water for the next few weeks. The city’s water resource department says the change is caused by a byproduct of seasonal algae called Geosmin.

This water challenge was presented to me the other day:  What form of water treatment removes copper from our water?  The client in which I was speaking had been presented this by her doctor:

You know that Arizona is the copper state; and there may be some copper in our water. 1

You may also wish to consider water treatment methods such as reverse osmosis……

The Source:

Arizona’s Five C’s are: Copper, Cattle, Cotton, Citrus and Climate.

A person just called and is having to completely rebuilding their kitchen because a reverse osmosis plastic canister cracked and flooded their kitchen.  Their RO unit was over 10 years old.  With our very rigid maintenance program (and the leak controller devices we install and maintain; this would not have happened).  This is a story that should not have been told.   With Boyett’s family Rayne Water Conditioning (RAYNE ERADICATOR RO UNIT) your house will not be flooded.

This is an image we never want to see.  With Boyett’s family Rayne Water Conditioning – you will not see this image.  When our service manager completed his phone call with this man he said to us: this probably happens in the valley several times a day (reverse osmosis flooding homes).  This is a wasteful experience that can be avoided by calling our company (480) 969-7251 my cell phone (602) 291-4157  or email me (Brian Hayden Boyett).

11.03.17 1:01 PM

I saw this troubling article in a Saturday paper.  I thought that we might have the same problems someday in our region.  We have decided to prepare ourselves for these possible water problems by developing water treatment solutions for each of these specific problems – in other regions.

This article was posted in The Wall Street Journal (Saturday/ Sunday, October 21-22, 2017: Troubled Waters; In the early stages of industrial growth, India already has some of the world’s worst environmental problems.  Its heavily polluted Yamuna River is a prime example).

PICTURE DESCRIPTION: Untreated waste flows into the Yamuna in Delhi.

Here are some excerpts from this article:

The Yamuna River that flows through Delhi has helped sustain some of India’s greatest empires.  Hindu poets celebrated its life-giving properties.  The Mughal dynasty built the Taj Mahal and other monuments along its banks.

Today, the Yamuna is a foul sludge for much of its 855-mile run.  In Delhi, it is black and nearly motionless, covered in many areas with a foam of industrial chemicals, floating plastic and human waste.

Every 100 milliliters of the Yamuna in Delhi contains 22 million fecal coliform bacteria, up from 12,250 in 1988, scientists say.  Anything over 500 is unsafe for bathing, India’s government says.  The comparable standard in Vermont is 235.

Illnesses ranging from diarrhea to brain worms are reported along the river’s edges.  By the time the Yamuna exits Delhi, it is so defiled that scientists have declared the next 300 miles “eutrophic,” or incapable of sustaining animal life.

A government report in 2015 found that 275 of 445 rivers in India are severely polluted, including the Ganges.  An international nonprofit, WaterAid, says 70% of India’s surface water is contaminated.  Diarrhea, often caused by drinking bad water, is the fourth-leading cause of death in India, ahead of any cancer, and kills far more people than in China, which has a larger population.

The Yamuna river – which touches the lives of more than 100 million people through northern India – is a classic example of how India’s unresolved poor-nation problems are combining with modernity to create an environmental nightmare.

It begins 21,000 feet up in the Himalayas, fed by a glacier.

As I read this part of the article I was reminded about our CAP canal (Central Arizona Project Canal: from which Arizona derives about 30% of our water (certain times of the year – in certain Arizona regions).  My concern is this: I hope the same thing that is occurring in the Yamuna in Delhi will not occur with our Central Arizona Project Canal in Arizona.

Continuing with the article…… Other riverside residents have suffered seizures caused by tapeworms three to six millimeters wide in the walls of their brains.

As I was preparing this information for you; this thought came to my mind:  All of our waters may be troubled someday ‘at times’.   This is a problem; at the same time this gives me hope that our work as water treatment professionals will continue to be important.  Have you ever heard the saying:  A man and woman cannot survive without hope?  I hope to live until I am 100 years old (happy and healthy).  It will be necessary for us all to drink good healthy water every day.   It is important to have a goal and a mission.  This to me is a good mission (for the next 15 years ‘at least: for us all to drink good healthy water every day’).

Boyett’s family Rayne Water Conditioning will prepare ourselves for all troubled waters by (study – research – design/ develop).

Troubled Waters – stand aside; the Boyett’s family Rayne Water Conditioning is on the scene.

Oh, the water problems described in this article: The Wall Street Journal (Saturday/ Sunday, October 21-22, 2017: Troubled Waters) can be solved with the Boyett’s family Rayne Water Conditioning +Mg+pH+h2o+ro system; with an ultraviolet light attached.

Information about our Ultra Violet water purification method:

A bad water test is a test that shows the presence of e.coli or coliform bacteria. Both e.coli and coliform bacteria should not be present in a drinking water supply. Any laboratory that tests water will be able to test for the presence of these two bacteria. Once it’s been established that either of these two bacteria are present in a water supply, it’s left to the property owner to decide how to proceed. Most water treatment professionals will offer two choices when it comes to dealing with bacteria in your water: UV or Chlorine.

UV, adds nothing to the water. It simply kills bacteria and other microorganisms as they pass by the UV lamp. Ultraviolet systems are comprised of a steel chamber into which a UV lamp is inserted. UV systems also include a power supply, sometimes called a ballast, for powering the lamp.

The above information is provided by a leading ultraviolet light (for reverse osmosis units) manufacturer.

You can add a UV light to any of Boyett’s family Rayne Water Conditioning RO units for an additional $17/month plus tax.  We change the UV bulb every year; this is included in your yearly service for no additional fee.

I have rented RO systems from Boyett’s since 1987. They have installed sytems in my residences and my rental properties, and even in a temporary apartment I lived in for 3 months. The water tastes great! In the 30 years I’ve used Boyett’s, I think I’ve called them 2 or 3 times to come out for a problem, and they’ve come right away to fix or replace the unit. Renting is ideal for me, because they come once a year to install a new unit, rather than trying to maintain an aging system. We started getting the system with magnesium when it came out because I have problems with foot cramps. Within 2 weeks, I realized I hadn’t had foot cramps in several days. As long as I drink a healthy amount of this water every day, I don’t have problems with foot cramps. As a long-time customer, I’ve come to know Hayden, Troy and the team at Boyett’s and they’re wonderful people. I can’t say enough good things about the water, the service and the people at Boyett’s. I recommend them to everyone I know, including our tenants.

In a book titled Choose your foods Like your life depends on them by Dr. Colleen Huber (Naturopathic medical doctor)

She writes about the importance of water in our diet:

Page 98

… yourself a huge favor, and change your mindset about potable liquids.  There is really no good reason to drink anything other than water (R.O filtered or spring water).  In fact, when we drink other liquids, we train ourselves to slake our thirst with different tastes than water, which then makes the taste of water seem strange.  Since our bodies are 90% water, the only thing strange about this is our acquired perception of water as strange.  Leave the heavy and expensive juices, teas, lattes and liquor at the store.  Water is the only substance that can quench both the thirst we feel and the dehydration that almost everyone suffers to one degree or another.  Drink it as you like it, with ice or without, with lemon or without, but reacquaint yourself with the one beverage that rehydrates and moisturizes all the way in to the cellular level and out to the skin: water.

We have great water here.  Sincerely, Brian Hayden Boyett

On my way to Barnes and Noble last night I saw something that caught my eye:

I only took a picture.

When I arrived at Barnes and Noble this book caught my eye.

I applied principles of speed reading to share this information with you fast.

Maybe you can help me answer this question:  How can I apply Jonah Berger’s Six Principles of Contagiousness to our water products to make them more valuable to you?

Principle 1: Social Currency

How does it make you look to talk about our water products and services?

Principle 2:  Triggers

How do we remind you to talk about our water products?  Top of mind leads to tip of tongue. (A)

Principle 3: Emotion

When we care, we share.

Principle 4: Public

Can people see when you are utilizing our water products?  We need to make our ideas and product more public. (A)  We need to design products and initiatives that advertise themselves and create behavioral residue that sticks around even after people have bought the product or espoused the idea. (A)

Principle 5: Practical Value

How can we craft content that seems useful to you? (A)  People like to help others, so if we can show them how our products or ideas will save time, improve health, or save money, they’ll spread the word.  (A) But given how inundated people are with information, we need to make our message stand out from the crowd. (A)  We need to understand what makes something seem like a particularly good deal. (A)  We need to highlight the incredible value of what we offer – monetarily and otherwise.  And we need to package our knowledge and expertise so that people can easily pass it on.

Elevated levels of tritium have been found in a monitoring well near a former nuclear power plant in Genoa, Wisc. The groundwater contamination was discovered by LaCrosseSolutions, a subsidiary of the nuclear waste disposal company EnergySolutions, after being contracted by property owners Dairyland Power Cooperative to complete the cleanup of the site active from 1967 to 1987.

LaCrosseSolutions reported 24,200 picocuries per liter recorded on Feb. 24, just below the U.S. EPA’s drinking water limit of 25,000 picocuries per liter. The cleanup agency reported the groundwater contamination to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), which are working together to find the source of the leak. A do not drink advisory has been placed on neighboring communities, though both LaCrosseSolutions and the NRC have called the water safe to drink.

“Based on the information we have so far this should not have any impact on public health and safety,” said NRC Spokeswoman Viktoria Mitlyng.

LaCrosseSolutions has stopped dismantling the containment tower while inspectors work to find the source of the leak, according to the La Crosse Tribune. Other decommissioning activities are continuing, however.

Here is the really bad news:

Water Treatment for Tritiated Water

There is no known treatment. According to the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission :

Like normal hydrogen, tritium can bond with oxygen to form water. When this happens, the resulting water (called “tritiated water”) is radioactive. Tritiated water (not to be confused with heavy water) is chemically identical to normal water and the tritium cannot be filtered out of the water.

Makes me wonder if nuclear energy is sustainable and healthy for us?

Plastics are being found in bottled water

Bottled water: WHO launches plastic health review

By David ShukmanScience editor

Here are some excerpts from this article:

The World Health Organization is to launch a review into the potential risks of plastic in drinking water.

It will assess the latest research into the spread and impact of so-called microplastics – particles that are small enough to be ingested.

It comes after journalism organisation Orb Media found plastic particles in many major brands of bottled water.

There is no evidence that microplastics can undermine human health but the WHO wants to assess the state of knowledge.

Bruce Gordon, coordinator of the WHO’s global work on water and sanitation, told BBC News that the key question was whether a lifetime of eating or drinking particles of plastic could have an effect.

“When we think about the composition of the plastic, whether there might be toxins in it, to what extent they might carry harmful constituents, what actually the particles might do in the body – there’s just not the research there to tell us.

“We normally have a ‘safe’ limit but to have a safe limit, to define that, we need to understand if these things are dangerous, and if they occur in water at concentrations that are dangerous.”

“The public are obviously going to be concerned about whether this is going to make them sick in the short term and the long term.”

The WHO initiative is partly in response to a study that screened more than 250 bottles of water from 11 different brands bought in nine countries – the largest investigation of its kind.

The tests were carried out at the State University of New York in Fredonia as part of a project involving original research and reporting by the US-based journalism organisation Orb Media.

Using a dye called Nile Red, which binds to free floating pieces of plastic, the university’s Prof Sherri Mason found an average of 10 plastic particles per litre of water, each larger than the size of a human hair.

Smaller particles assumed to be plastic but not positively identified were found as well – an average of 314 per litre.

Of all the bottles tested, 17 were found to have no particles at all while many had counts ranging into the hundreds or even thousands, with big differences within brands and even the same pack of bottles.

We contacted the companies behind the brands and most responded, standing by the quality and safety of their products.

A few questioned why the study’s results were so much higher than their own internal research or pointed out that there are no regulations on microplastics or agreed methods for testing for them.

The study comes on top of earlier investigations that have found microplastics in tap water, beer, sea salt and fish, and Prof Mason told me that researchers need to be able to answer the pressing question of whether microplastics can be harmful.

“What we do know is that some of these particles are big enough that, once ingested, they are probably excreted but along the way they can release chemicals that cause known human health impacts.

Dr Wright told me: “The particles could stay within an immune cell in the gut lining, or be passed into our lymphatic system ending up in the lymph nodes, or there is a small potential for them to enter the blood stream and possibly accumulate in the liver.

“These are foreign hard particles which our body will obviously want to get rid of but it can’t because plastic is not degradable so that will cause harm to the local tissue.

By the way; our water contains no plastic.

Problems We Found With Gilbert’s Drinking Water

Emma Schultz, M.S. | Scientific Contributor

For our assessment of Gilbert tap water, we aggregated water quality test data from the City of Gilbert’s Water Quality Division, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as from samples that we collect and analyze.  We cross reference these data with toxicity studies in the scientific and medical literature, and look at upcoming regulatory changes.

Source Of Gilbert Drinking Water

Gilbert’s drinking water is both groundwater- and surface water-sourced. Surface water originates from the Salt River Project, with dams and reservoirs located on the Salt River and Verde River watersheds; and from the Central Arizona Project, drawing water from the Colorado River via Lake Havasu in a canal. All surface water is directed to one of Gilbert’s two water treatment plants, either the North Water Treatment Plant or the Santan Vista Water Treatment Plant. The Santan Vista plant is working to double its water production capabilities, which should be finished by early 2018. Groundwater is pumped as needed from 17 wells located throughout Gilbert, with ion exchange or adsorptive media used at some wells to reduce inorganic contaminant concentrations. In 2016, SRP provided 49% of the water used, while groundwater supplied 28% and CAP 23%.

Arsenic In Gilbert Drinking Water

Arsenic is a dangerous heavy metal known to cause cancer, among other health problems. Arsenic originates in source water.  While Gilbert is in compliance with EPA water quality standards, consumers should take note that the EPA’s standard balances toxicity against the costs of removing arsenic from drinking water; the standard is therefore quite high. Gilbert’s most recent tap water quality report listed average arsenic concentrations ranging from 3.2-9.1 parts per billion, with an average concentration of 6.43 ppb.  Although this is a not an EPA violation, we strongly advocate that tap water with more than 1 part per billion be treated to remove arsenic, especially if there are children in the home.

Lead In Gilbert Drinking Water

Lead enters consumer tap water through old lead service pipes and lead-containing plumbing. When corrosion control measures fail (such as recently happened in Flint, Michigan), lead leaches into drinking water and can reach toxic levels. Recent analysis for lead in Gilbert found a 90th percentile concentration of 1.33 ppb, with an upper range limit of 2.9 ppb. While the Action Level is 15 ppb, both the EPA and CDC recognize that there is no such thing as a safe level of lead. In addition, federal regulations cannot possibly take into account levels measured at an individual tap.

Very High Levels Of Chromium 6 In Gilbert Drinking Water

Chromium 6 is a highly toxic metal that, while monitored, is not regulated by the EPA. Gilbert’s tap water recently averaged 5900 parts per trillion for chromium 6. These average levels are a staggering 295 times higher than the concentration determined to have a negligible impact on cancer risk.

Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs) In Gilbert Drinking Water

DBPs are a category of emerging contaminants that form when chlorine-based disinfectants react with naturally-occurring organic matter.  Although these chemicals are not well regulated, the EPA has stated that they are associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer, as well as kidney, liver, and central nervous system problems. DBPs in Gilbert’s tap water had a 2016 local running annual average of 48.0089 parts per billion. It should be noted that levels of Total Trihalomethanes ranged as high as 110 ppb, while the EPA’s Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level is only 80 ppb. While over the MRDL, this is not an EPA violation since local running annual averages are used for comparison.

Use Of Chlorine In Gilbert Tap Water

Like most cities in the United States, Gilbert adds chlorine to its water supply to keep consumers safe from waterborne pathogens. While not considered harmful in low concentrations, many people find that removing the chlorine from their water supply results in a taste and odor improvement. When you choose to filter your tap water, we believe you will notice an immediate taste enhancement.

Drugs in the water – sewage to be tested
Tempe sewage to be tested for opioids, other drugs

Tayler Brown
Cronkite News
Weekend 060218 Z10 page 8

Arizona State University scientists will work with Tempe to detect opioids and other drugs in city wastewater, an exploration that could serve as an early warning system in the ongoing opioid crisis.
The city and the ASU Biodesign Institute each will contribute $35,000 to study wastewater for opioids, cocaine, marijuana and other drugs as part of its efforts to monitor public health.
“The only good way to quickly measure community health is to look at wastewater, to look at the actual consumption of type and quantity of drugs moving through the city” said Rolf Halden, director of the Biodesign Center for Environment Health Engineering. “We can analyze that and can warn citizens and law enforcement of the arrival of very dangerous drugs before we see the spike in oversizes and deaths.”
To monitor public health, the institute tests wastewater for Tempe and about 200 cities in the U.S., researcher Adam Gushgari said.

The Tempe research will be a 48-hour turnaround, with the team collecting samples every 24 hours, testing them for opiods, synthetic drugs and other substances, and sending those results to the city within 24 hours.

Getting data so quickly could help government leaders understand trends and identify key issues.
The data takes a look at a geographic area but can’t pinpoint use from a specific household or person, researches said.
“We are not interested in exploring particular citizens,” Halden said. “The first mission is to protect the privacy of the citizen.”
The data collected from the wastewater will contribute to Tempe’s overall understanding of opioid issues, said Joel Navarro, a Tempe councilman who heads a regional committee on opioids. It will be sued in tandem with the city’s Opioid Abuse Dashboard, which tracks areas in the city getting the most public safety calls.
Ultimately, it will help the city target the right programs to combat the opioid crisis, Navarro and researchers said. The wastewater results could show whether a newly launched program is effective in real time.

“We are embarking here on a revolution in public health,” Hadlen said. “We are spending a lot of money in health care treating sick people. And there is an opportunity to move to the front end of public health and prevent people from getting sick.”

I typed this word for word. I was so surprised to learn about this study.

Here is another topic in which I am interested:

Pharmaceuticals end up in water supply, AZ experts suggest better tracking

Pharmaceuticals end up in water supply, AZ experts suggest better tracking

Here are some excerpts from this article:
PHOENIX – The Arizona health community distributed 305 million pain reliever pills last year – enough to provide 24-hour medication for every adult in the state for two weeks straight, according to the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission.
As those pills, like other medications, are taken or tossed, some of the chemicals found in them can end up in the water supply.
Chemical contaminants, ranging from prescription drugs to hygiene products, can enter the environment through landfills, flushed waste and shower drains. In the U.S., some of the most common contaminants include prescription and nonprescription drugs, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The EPA regulates contaminants in drinking water considered toxic to humans. However, the disposal of most of the daily use chemicals – like opioids – aren’t regulated and are treated by wastewater treatment plants, he said. Abrell said it would be very difficult to monitor because the resources just aren’t available.

Between 2007 and 2009, water samples from Arizona surface water, wastewater, drinking water treatment plants and groundwater recharge sites showed 26 contaminants in a study by Chao-An Chiu, who authored the study as a doctoral dissertation, and Paul Westerhoff, professor and senior adviser on science and engineering to the ASU vice provost.
Water samples taken from the Salt River, where visitors spend summer days tubing, swimming and tanning, and other groundwater and surface water sources showed evidence of consistent contaminants, such as acetaminophen, oxybenzone and caffeine.
What water treatment method will remove drugs from the water?

Conventional wastewater treatment facilities generally have activated sludge processes or other forms of biological treatment such as biofiltration. These processes have demonstrated varying removal rates for pharmaceuticals, ranging from less than 20% to greater than 90%. The efficiency of these processes for the removal of pharmaceuticals varies within and between studies and is dependent on operational configuration of the wastewater treatment facility. Factors influencing removal include sludge age, activated sludge tank temperature and hydraulic retention time. Pharmaceuticals in Drinking-water xi Comparatively, advanced wastewater treatment processes, such as reverse osmosis, ozonation and advanced oxidation technologies, can achieve higher removal rates for pharmaceuticals.
Advanced water treatment processes, such as ozonation, advanced oxidation, activated carbon and membranes (e.g. nanofiltration, reverse osmosis), are able to achieve higher removal rates (above 99%) for targeted pharmaceutical compounds in various studies in the published literature.

Will reverse osmosis water treatment remove drugs from our drinking water?
Water filtered or treated by RO is pure, clean, and healthy. RO treatment system is currently the only technology that can remove most of the emerging contaminants (i.e., prescription drugs and perchlorate) including other contaminants (i.e., Arsenic, Cyanide, and Fluoride) that are difficult to remove by other treatment methods.

Conclusion by Brian Hayden Boyett:
The water treatment method we deploy in our +Mg+pH+h2o+ro drinking water system (the Boyett’s family reverse osmosis purification method) will protect your family and business associates from the drugs which are found in the Phoenix metro water.
